Killzone: Mercenary 2 is the upcoming sequel to 2013's Killzone: Mercenary. The game will be developed once again by Guerrilla Cambridge, under supervision of Guerrilla Games.

The game is currently scheduled for a Q4 2016 release, and will launch on both the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3.

Development History Edit

2012 Edit

In January of 2012, when Killzone: Mercenary was still in its early development stages, Sony held a meeting with high-end members of the Guerrilla Cambridge team. Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony's Worldwide Studios) expressed the company's desire to make Mercenary into a spin-off franchise. Cambridge agreed, and a contract was made for an untitled sequel.

For the rest of the year, Cambridge was focused on preparing Mercenary for an E3 2013 demo, delaying any development on the sequel to 2013.

2013Edit

Killzone: Mercenary 2 entered pre-production in early 2013, with about a third of the Cambridge team behind it, while the rest of the team finished patching Mercenary for release.

One of the first decisions the team was faced with was what platform(s) they wanted to release the game on. Making it a Vita exclusive would have (presumably) led to no profit, so the team decided to also design the game for PS3.

It was also decided early on that the game would be bundled in with a Killzone themed PlayStation TV worldwide, as well as with the PlayStation Vita "Slim" in the U.K..
